Local News Goes Digital: ULM and SCTV Hold Workshop and Talent Scouting

Banjarmasin – In the era of rapidly developing digital transformation, digitalization has become a crucial element in various aspects of life, including in the world of local news broadcasting. This change is driven by the development of information and communication technology, as well as changes in consumer behavior that increasingly rely on digital devices to access information.

The main advantages of digitalization are the speed of information distribution and wider reach. With digitalization, local news can be accessed anytime and anywhere, expanding the audience reach beyond traditional geographic boundaries. In addition, technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics enable more personalized and interactive news presentations, increasing audience engagement.

Therefore, through the collaboration carried out by Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), especially with the Communication Science Study Program with SCTV from the Center and SCTV contributors from South Kalimantan, the Communication Science Study Program seeks to improve the competence of its students in the field of broadcasting by holding a Workshop and Talent Scouting TV Broadcasting “Local News, Go Digital” on Tuesday (3/12/2024).

The activity initiated by the Communication Science Study Program presented speakers namely Dr. Fahrianoor, S.I.P, M.Si as the Coordinator of the ULM Communication Masters Study Program and Henry Sianipar, M.I.Kom as the Senior Executive Producer of Liputan 6 SCTV. Present at this activity were lecturers from the Communication Science Study Program (Ilkom) as well as students and academics of ULM.

Dr. Yuanita Setyastuti, S.IP, M.Si as the Coordinator of the Communication Science Undergraduate Study Program in her speech welcomed the collaboration and workshop and talent scouting activities with SCTV. She also hoped that ULM students would not be able to take advantage of this opportunity as best they could.

“In the past, local content had a hard time competing with people in the center who were supported by better infrastructure, but now with citizen journalism, everyone can be seen and famous anywhere, the homework is only 1, to improve competence”. said Dr. Yuanita.

Vice Rector IV of ULM, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc who was present and opened the event, had high hopes for the students to be able to follow the workshop as well as possible. He also gave his appreciation for the strategic steps taken by the Communication study program in improving and exploring the talents of its students in broadcasting through collaboration with leading national companies.

This activity not only aims to improve student competence but also tries to develop the talents they have by inviting students to join the world of broadcasting. A series of activities were carried out in addition to conducting workshops and direct training, namely standing reporting, which was then continued with talent scouting to recruit talents who would be involved in SCTV’s coverage reportage in South Kalimantan.
