Leni, Jhanny Sabatina Frinitasari, and Winda Safitri, Achieve 3rd Winner Position in International Student Writing Competition
Yogyakarta – Article writing by Public Administration Study Program students, namely Leni, Jhanny Sabatina Frinitasari, and Winda Safitri, was able to bring Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) to the international competition in the 3rd winner position in the Student Writing Competition. The event was organized by the Indonesian Association for Public Administration (IAPA) in collaboration with the international organization AAPA-EROPA-AGPA through an international conference at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta on November 5-7, 2024.
The article written in the IAPA Student Writing Competition this time is entitled “Building Public Trust in Digital Transformation: A Study of Police Bureaucracy Through Si Cangkal”/”(Building Public Trust in Digital Transformation: Study of Police Bureaucracy Through Si Cangkal)”.
The idea behind writing this article originated from the phenomenon of the lack of public trust in the police in handling and responding to all reports received from the public, as well as the absence of online police services and crime follow-up so that people have to go to the office directly and wait for the report process. They focused their research in Banjarbaru City, because it was seen from BPS 2022 data that there was a significant increase in crime rates in Banjarbaru City from 2019 to 2021, and the lack of information in the online public service process and crime complaints in the community. For this reason, the Banjarbaru City Police developed a crime complaint application “Si Cangkal” to facilitate real-time reporting and improve communication with the public.
Jhanny in her interview said that the preparation took about a month, starting from determining the topic, conducting surveys to related agencies to compiling the article. The three of them faced many obstacles so that the competition activities did not interfere with their lecture time.
“Because this preparation coincided with a fairly busy lecture schedule, we had to be very effective in managing our time.” She said
In addition, the preparation of the article was also hampered by the lack of contribution from the relevant agencies in providing data or interviews which were very difficult to do so that in general the research only used literature reviews obtained through journals, books, or the internet. However, thanks to the good cooperation and strategies carried out by the three of them, the writing of the article could be carried out well. This also cannot be separated from the role of the accompanying lecturer in providing direction and input starting from the topic to the preparation of the article.
The opportunity to participate in this competition was felt by Jhanny to be a valuable experience which was not only a place to provide broad insight but also an opportunity to meet great people from all major universities in Indonesia. Although nervousness and fear certainly colored their journey when they had to face and discuss with the jury.
“Although there is a fear of failure, this experience has given me and the team valuable lessons on how to compete at a higher level. ” Jhanny concluded
