Team PPKS of ULM Receives Award from Banjarmasin City Government

Banjarmasin – The Task Force for Preventing and Handling Sexual Violence at Lambung Mangkurat University (PPKS ULM Task Force) received its third award this year. In the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign, the Banjarmasin City Government gave awards to several individuals and institutions who played a role in the campaign against violence against children and women. The Mayor of Banjarmasin, H. Ibnu Sina, S.Pi., M.Si. handed over the award directly to the chairman of the ULM PPKS Task Force Lena Hanifah, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D at the Banjarmasin City Government Lobby, Thursday (07/12/2023).

Lena Hanifah, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D explained that the 16-day anti-violence against women campaign is expected to encourage awareness and concern among the community and policy makers so that they can implement existing laws and related policies comprehensively and inclusively.  Both at the city level to smaller areas such as RT, RW and families which are the smallest units of a country.

Furthermore, she also saw that this campaign was closely related to what has been the focus of the ULM PPKS Task Force, namely creating a higher education environment that is safe and free from sexual violence. ULM is also one of the educational units in Banjarmasin so that all forms of campaigns carried out within higher education will ultimately have an impact on the level of concern, awareness of students and the ULM academic community outside of higher education regarding the importance of preventing and handling violence against women, especially violence. Sexual relations as the focus of the main tasks and functions of the PPKS Task Force. “Over the past 2 years, the PPKS Task Force has also often collaborated with related agencies in the city of Banjarmasin such as DP3A and LKBHuWK in resolving several cases of sexual violence,” said Lena.

In the future, Lena Hanifah, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. hopes that this campaign can convey messages of equality, anti-violence against women more widely and deeply in society so that there can be harmony between the government and society in actions to eliminate acts of violence against women. “In the future, in terms of statutory regulations as a legal umbrella, the government as the implementer of the law can implement it well and comprehensively, plus good public awareness and concern will certainly encourage women’s empowerment in the city of Banjarmasin,” she concluded.

The ULM PPKS Task Force is involved in this campaign to reach the campus community and wider society, disseminating information about ways to prevent and deal with sexual violence, especially at ULM. It is hoped that this campaign will also become a platform to provide education and training on the issue of sexual violence to students, staff and lecturers at ULM.
