ULM Holds Aruh Ganal, Spreading Advice on the Importance of Gratitude and Reaping Blessings

Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) holds its annual religious activity, Aruh Ganal, which includes the Khataman Al-Quran recitation and religious lectures. This year’s Aruh Ganal (Gathering of Gratitude, Reaping Blessings, and Carving Out ULM’s Achievements) took place at the Baitul Hikmah Mosque on the Banjarmasin campus on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

The event was attended by members of the academic community, including lecturers, educational staff, and students from across ULM. In his remarks, the Head of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Gusti M. Irhamna Husein, M.Pd., apologized to the guests, as ULM leadership was currently busy with unforeseen duties. He expressed his hope that the event would run smoothly and bring blessings.

Aruh Ganal is usually held annually during the Nisfu Sya’ban period, commemorating the arrival of the month of Ramadan. However, this year, the Aruh Ganal event was held earlier than usual, considering that the upcoming Nisfu Sya’ban coincided with the student semester break.

Last year, the Khataman (commemoration of the end of the fast) The Aruh Ganal Quran recitation was attended by approximately 750 students. This year, Irhamna announced that 1,500 students will participate in the Aruh Ganal Quran recitation activities. He also advised those in attendance to listen to the lecture that will open the Aruh Ganal series of activities.

“Let’s listen to the advice that will be given by the Teacher, so that we can carry and apply the knowledge gained after returning from this activity,” he said.

The event was then headlined by Teacher H. Muhammad Rasyid Ridha, who delivered a lecture on the importance of gratitude and reaping blessings in achieving success for ULM. Here are some key takeaways from his lecture that moved the audience:

• The Importance of Gratitude: Reminding the audience to always be grateful for all the blessings given by Allah SWT, as gratitude is the key to reaping blessings.
• Remembering Services: Emphasizing the importance of remembering and honoring the services of teachers, lecturers, and parents. He stated that their blessings and prayers are the key to achieving success. The path to success in this world and the hereafter.
• Avoiding Arrogance: A strong message was given to the entire academic community, especially students currently studying, to avoid arrogance or pride, as arrogance will diminish the blessings of the knowledge gained.

All participants listened intently to the sermon delivered. It is hoped that the moral and spiritual messages conveyed can be applied in daily life and become a foundation for achieving academic and non-academic achievements at ULM.
