Banjarmasin– Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has once again demonstrated its role as a university actively encouraging the development of students’ potential and critical thinking. Two of ULM’s best teams have been officially selected to represent the university in the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) and the Indonesian Student Debating Competition (KDMI), which will be held on October 20–25, 2025, at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), Purwokerto.

In these prestigious events, Muhammad Firas (Faculty of Engineering) and Muhammad Arif Mustaqim (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) will compete in the NUDC category, which uses the British Parliamentary debate system in English. Meanwhile, Elvina Reinandini (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) and Dinda Khairatun Nisa (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education) will compete in the KDMI, which uses Indonesian.

The NUDC and KDMI are annual events organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Ditjen Diktiristek). This year, 192 teams from various universities across Indonesia will compete with their arguments, ideas, and critical thinking skills in responding to national and global issues.

Before reaching the national level, ULM participants first passed an internal university selection process, then advanced to the regional level online, earning a ticket to the national competition.

ULM’s involvement in these events not only demonstrates support for outstanding students but also demonstrates the university’s commitment to fostering a critical, communicative, and globally competitive academic culture. Through active participation in NUDC and KDMI, ULM hopes that students will become intellectual ambassadors who promote the spirit of collaboration, tolerance, and innovation at the national level.

“ULM always encourages students to excel not only academically but also to boldly express ideas and engage in argumentative dialogue. Competitions like this provide an important platform for developing leadership and strategic thinking skills, which are crucial in the modern era,” said ULM Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. Muhammad Rusmin Nuryadin, SE, M.Si., in an official statement.

With this spirit, the ULM debate team’s participation in NUDC and KDMI 2025 is clear evidence that the university continues to play an active role in preparing a critical and communicative young generation ready to welcome Indonesia Emas 2045.
