ULM Animal Husbandry Student Community Service Program Educates on Pen Cleanliness and Organic Fertilizer Innovation in Hatiwin Village

Tapin – Group 7 of the Animal Husbandry Study Program (KKN) students from Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) conducted community service activities in Hatiwin Village, Tapin Regency, from August 7–10, 2025. The program focused on animal husbandry, specifically goat pen sanitation and the utilization of waste to produce liquid organic fertilizer (POC).

The goat pen sanitation and disinfection activities aimed to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the livestock environment. Through this activity, the students not only directly cleaned the pens but also educated the community on the importance of maintaining pen cleanliness to keep livestock healthy and prevent diseases that can harm farmers.

In addition, KKN Group 7 also introduced an innovative eggshell-based POC. This innovation aims to reduce household waste while producing a product that benefits the community. This liquid organic fertilizer is expected to help the community’s crops grow more fertile, be environmentally friendly, and support sustainable agriculture in the village.

The response from the Hatiwin Village community to the ULM student work program was very positive. Residents enthusiastically welcomed the program, noting its immediate benefits, both in terms of farm hygiene and the new knowledge gained about processing waste into useful products.

“The student program has been very helpful for us. In addition to cleaner barns, we’ve also gained new knowledge about organic fertilizers that can be used for plants,” said one resident.

Through this activity, the KKN group 7 students hope that their contributions will continue to benefit the Hatiwin Village community, particularly in managing livestock and agriculture in a healthier and more productive manner.
