ULM Faculty of Agriculture Community Service Students Hold Training on Making Urea Molasses Multinutrient Blocks (UMMB) for Livestock Farmers in Pandahan Village

TAPIN TENGAH – Students from the Community Service Program (KKN) Group 1 of the Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), conducted training on making Urea Molasses Multinutrient Blocks (UMMB) with the community of Pandahan Village, Tapin Tengah District, on Thursday (August 21, 2025) at the Pandahan Village Office.

UMMB is a supplement for ruminant livestock made from simple ingredients readily available in the livestock farming community. The UMMB composition introduced by the students consists of rice bran, molasses, urea, mineral mix, salt, lime, cement, and a small amount of water.

The manufacturing process begins by mixing the molasses, salt, and urea, followed by adding the mineral mix, cement, and lime. Once thoroughly mixed, the mixture is mixed with rice bran and sufficient water to achieve the desired texture. It is then molded into a solid circle and dried in the sun.

UMMB is provided to livestock by hanging it on the edge of the pen so that it can be licked directly by cows and other ruminants. The primary purpose of UMMB is to provide a practical supplement while simultaneously improving feed digestibility, appetite, energy, protein, and mineral intake. Other expected benefits include increased livestock productivity and reproduction, weight gain, and milk production.

This activity received a positive response from the community. The farmers enthusiastically participated in each stage, from introducing the ingredients and mixing, molding, and drying. Some farmers even invited students to directly administer UMMB to their livestock, requesting more detailed explanations so they can make it independently in the future.

With this training, it is hoped that Pandahan Village farmers will be able to utilize UMMB as a simple yet beneficial solution to increase the productivity of their ruminant livestock.
