ULM Improves Mental Health of Youth in Gunung Raja Village Through Artistic Expression
TANAH LAUT – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has once again demonstrated its commitment to community service. Through the Medicartes Student Organization (Ormawa) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), ULM held a Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) in Gunung Raja Village, Tambang Ulang District, on Sunday (August 24, 2025).
The event, centered at the Gunung Raja Village Hall in Kayu Abang, carried the theme “Harmonious Village (Physical and Mental Health Oriented to Art): Village Transformation to Build Youth Mental Health through Artistic Expression.” The program involved 15 students, supervising lecturers, village youth, and the local government.
The Head of Tambang Ulang District, Khairil Fahmi, S.Sos., M.AP, who also attended the event, expressed his appreciation for the ULM students’ contributions.
“Thank you for choosing Gunung Raja Village as the location for this activity. Hopefully, this initiative will inspire other student organizations to continue actively supporting the improvement of village community health,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ratu Bilqis Arano, the head of the organizing committee, explained that this program was designed to help village youth find a positive outlet for expression.
“We want to improve youth mental health through fun and productive arts activities, while strengthening collaboration between students, student organizations, and the community,” she explained.
The supervising lecturer, Rika Vira Zwagery, M.Psi., Psychologist, added that the success of this activity was due to the students’ extensive preparation and support from the local government.
“The students’ hard work over the past few months and the support of various parties were key to the successful implementation of this activity,” she said.
Through this activity, ULM emphasizes its role as a university that focuses not only on academic education but also directly impacts the community. The PPK Ormawa program in Gunung Raja Village is expected to become a model of sustainable service in supporting the mental health of the younger generation through art.
