ULM Holds 80th Indonesian Independence Day Ceremonies in Three Locations, Strengthening the Spirit of Nationalism and Diversity

BANJARMASIN – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held ceremonies to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence simultaneously in three different locations on Sunday (August 17, 2025).

The ceremonies took place at the ULM Banjarmasin Campus Open Space Field, the ULM Banjarbaru Postgraduate Field, and the Sultan Adam Tahura Hill in Banjar Regency.

ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Sc., led the ceremony on the Banjarmasin campus. Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Akhmad Rizally Saidy, S.P., M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., acted as the ceremony inspector on the Banjarbaru campus. The flag-raising ceremony at the Sultan Adam Tahura Hill was led by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. Muhammad Rusmin Nuryadin, SE., M.Si.

The ceremonies at all three locations were solemn and meaningful, attended by ULM lecturers, students, and educational staff. Interestingly, the lecturers and educational staff wore traditional attire from various regions of Indonesia, symbolizing diversity and strengthening the value of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) on campus.

Not only within the academic space, ULM also brought the momentum of the independence commemoration to the open air. After the ceremony at Bukit Tahura Sultan Adam, the Vice Rector, along with the Chair of the KHDTK (Center for the Arts), the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, lecturers, and students from the Student Executive Board (BEM), the Mapala Student Activity Unit (UKM), and the Scout Student Activity Unit (UKM Pramuka), unfurled a 10 x 15 meter Indonesian flag at the top of the hill. This action affirmed ULM’s commitment to maintaining nationalism and caring for environmental sustainability.

ULM Rector, Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri, stated that this independence commemoration was not merely a ceremonial event, but also part of fostering national character for the entire academic community.

“The momentum of the 80th Indonesian Independence Day is a reminder for all of us, especially students, to cultivate a spirit of patriotism, achieve success, and make a real contribution towards Golden Indonesia 2045,” he said.

Through a series of ceremonies at three locations, ULM emphasized its role as a university that focuses not only on education, research, and community service, but also actively instills the values of nationalism, unity, and diversity in all campus members.
