Banjarbaru, July 7, 2025 — The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a Public Lecture and Initial Briefing for the 2025 Impactful Thematic Community Service Program in the 3rd Floor Hall of the FPIK ULM Banjarbaru Building on Monday (7/7). The event was attended by 233 students from six study programs as preparation for their Community Service Program (KKN) in Tanah Bumbu Regency.

The briefing and public lecture were delivered by three national experts in the field of aquatic and coastal science: Prof. Dietriech G. Bengen with a topic entitled “Mangroves as Coastal Ecosystems: Functions, Benefits, and Management,” Prof. Fredinan Yulianda with a topic entitled “Marine Tourism,” and Prof. Mulyono S. Baskoro presented the topic “Development of Squid Attractors in the Context of Integrated Fisheries.”

The event was attended by 233 students from six study programs at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), including:

  • Fisheries Product Technology Study Program (38 students);
  • Fisheries Socioeconomics Study Program (49 students);
  • Capture Fisheries Study Program (13 students);
  • Aquatic Resources Management Study Program (56 students);
  • Marine Science Study Program (44 students); and
  • Aquaculture Study Program (33 students).

This activity aimed to equip students with practical and strategic knowledge related to coastal and marine resource management. The material presented by the experts covered ecological, social, and technological approaches to coastal area development, including mangrove utilization, marine tourism development, and the integration of environmentally friendly fishing gear.

“On behalf of the faculty, I would like to thank the committee and speakers. This Community Service Program (KKN) will be held in Tanah Bumbu based on our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the local government,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (ULM), Dr. Ir. H. Untung Bijaksana, M.P.

The Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs, Dr. Ir. Arief Rahmad Maulana Akbar, M.Sc., IPU, in his remarks stated that the presence of these national experts demonstrates a strong commitment to strengthening the competency-based KKN program.

“We are grateful to have such extraordinary alumni. Today’s speakers have extensive experience throughout Indonesia. This will be an important asset for the students to understand the field context and strengthen their future KKN work program,” he said on behalf of the ULM Rector.

Following this briefing, the students will depart for the KKN location in Tanah Bumbu Regency to undertake a community service program for several weeks. The main focus of the activities will include coastal empowerment, mangrove conservation, utilization of fisheries potential, and development of community-based marine tourism.

With this briefing activity, FPIK ULM demonstrates its seriousness in producing graduates who are not only excellent in academics, but also sensitive to environmental and social issues, especially in the coastal areas of South Kalimantan.
