Synergy between ULM and UMBJM: Support for the Development of the Faculty of Medicine
Banjarmasin, May 9, 2025 – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) received a visit and discussion of cooperation plans from the leadership of Universitas Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin (UMBJM) in the context of establishing the UMB Faculty of Medicine. The meeting took place in the Wasaka 1 meeting room of the ULM Banjarmasin Rectorate, Friday (5/9/2025), attended by leaders from both institutions.
ULM was represented by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Dr. Iwan Aflanie, dr., M.Kes., Sp.F., SH, Vice Rector for Cooperation, Public Relations, and Information Systems Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc, Head of the Academic Bureau, Head of Public Relations and Cooperation, and the leadership of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) ULM consisting of Dean Prof. Dr. dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Pd., FISPH., FISCM, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs dr. Mashuri, Sp. Rad(K) RI, M.Kes, Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs Dr. Neka Erlyani, M.Psi., Psychologist, and Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni Fauzie Rahman, SKM, MPH.
From UMBJM, the Rector Prof. Khudzaifah Dimyati and the ranks of vice rectors were present, namely Apt. Risya Mulyani, M.Sc. (Vice Rector I), Yustan Azidin, Ns., M.Kep. (Vice Rector II), and Ir. H. Ichwan Setiawan, S.T., M.T. (Vice Rector III).
In his remarks, Dr. Iwan welcomed the visit and conveyed ULM’s readiness and experience in supporting the process of establishing a new medical faculty, as has been done together with Palangka Raya University. “As I have said, ULM currently has more than 50 percent of study programs accredited as Unggul including study programs in the Faculty of Medicine. Our experience in fostering and developing medical education is sufficient, and hopefully we can collaborate and provide the assistance needed by UMB,” said Dr. Iwan.
This meeting is the initial step in exploring formal cooperation between the two universities in terms of assistance in preparing proposals, fulfilling accreditation standards, to developing curriculum and human resources. The discussion was active and open, marking the spirit of synergy between universities in improving educational services in the health sector in South Kalimantan.
ULM is committed to continuing to encourage strategic collaboration with various institutions, especially in developing quality medical education that is oriented towards improving public health.
