Banjarmasin — Awareness of the importance of occupational safety and health (OHS) was the main focus of the Seminar of the Association of Similar Student Organizations (IOMS) which was held on Friday, May 9, 2025. Taking place at the Lecture Theater General Building of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), this activity carried the theme “Building OHS Awareness: Provision for Students for the World of Work”.

The seminar presented two competent speakers in the field of employment, namely M. Trisetya Hadi Saputra, S.KM and Gusnul Ramadhani, S.E., who are Young Expert Labor Supervisors. This activity was attended by hundreds of students from various study programs who are members of IOMS at ULM.

In his presentation, M. Trisetya Hadi Saputra introduced the meaning and importance of OHS in the world of work.

“K3 awareness is not only the responsibility of the company, but also the individual. Students as prospective workers must understand work risks early on in order to create a safe, healthy, and productive work environment,” said Trisetya.

Meanwhile, Gusnul Ramadhani explained more deeply about the understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) which includes efforts to identify, evaluate, and control hazards in the work environment, the K3 Norm problem map, the role of stakeholders in decision making, and the stages of K3 intervention and implementation plans in the world of work.

“K3 is an integral part of a professional work culture. By getting to know the stakeholders involved and understanding the applicable norms, students can be better prepared to face the dynamic and challenging world of work,” said Gusnul.

This activity aims to provide students with practical knowledge about the importance of implementing K3, both in the formal work environment and in daily activities. In addition, the seminar is also expected to be able to foster a proactive attitude of students towards occupational safety and health.

The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from the many questions and interactive discussions that took place during the material session. Participants acknowledged that this seminar opened up new insights into challenges in the world of work that are not only related to technical expertise, but also readiness to maintain the safety of themselves and others.

Through this seminar, ULM and similar student organizations demonstrated their commitment to preparing human resources who are not only academically intelligent, but also aware of the importance of occupational safety. This activity is part of a systematic effort to support the achievement of the Main Performance Indicators (IKU) of higher education in producing graduates who are ready to work and highly competitive.

By providing K3 knowledge since college, it is hoped that ULM students will be able to become agents of change who implement a safe and healthy work culture in various industrial sectors and institutions that they will enter in the future.
