Banjarbaru – In order to increase synergy between the industrial world and universities, PLN Distribution Main Unit (UID) of South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan (Kalselteng) together with the Faculty of Engineering of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a guest lecture entitled “Energy Resilience and Renewable Energy”. This activity took place in Banjarbaru and was attended by around 100 students from the Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Study Programs.

This guest lecture presented the General Manager of PLN UID Kalselteng, Ahmad Syauki, who explained PLN’s strategic role in supporting the national energy transition towards the use of renewable energy (EBT).

“PLN has been assigned by the government to lead the national energy transition. We continue to encourage the development of renewable energy with a target of 75 percent of the additional power generation capacity of 100 GW by 2040 coming from EBT,” said Ahmad Syauki.

Furthermore, he said that Kalimantan has great potential in the development of clean energy, such as biogas, biomass, solar power, and wind power. In addition, PLN also continues to develop electric vehicle infrastructure by presenting 75 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in the South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan region, to accelerate the battery-based vehicle ecosystem.

“With an average distance between SPKLUs of around 42 km, electric vehicle users are now more comfortable traveling,” he added.

Also present as a resource person, Senior Manager of Planning for PLN UID South Kalimantan, Diah Puspita, who explained that the use of local energy is the main strategy in realizing national energy security.

“Local-based energy not only reduces dependence on fuel imports, but also provides economic benefits for the surrounding community,” explained Diah.

PLN also introduced the Accelerated Renewable Energy Development (ARED) strategy to accelerate the use of EBT, as well as promote green energy products such as Green Energy as a Service (GEaS), Renewable Energy Certificate (REC), and Dedicated Green Energy Sources, to answer the increasing customer needs for clean energy.

Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Engineering ULM, Dr. Ir. Mahmud ST, MT, expressed his appreciation for PLN’s contribution to this activity.

“We are very grateful to PLN, especially to Mr. Ahmad Syauki, who has shared practical knowledge with our students. The presence of industry practitioners such as PLN is very important in enriching students’ insights and preparing them to face future challenges,” he said.

Dr. Mahmud also hopes that collaborations like this can continue so that more students can gain direct understanding of the challenges and opportunities in developing the energy sector in Indonesia.

Through this activity, it is hoped that students of the ULM Faculty of Engineering can deepen their understanding of the transformation of the electricity sector and contribute to the development of green energy for a more sustainable future.
