Banjarbaru – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) hosted the launch of Asta Kampus and Sekolah Peduli Sampah in commemoration of National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) 2025. The activity, which took place at the ULM Auditorium, Saturday (03/15/2025), presented a strategic collaboration of three ministries, namely the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, and the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education. This event also involved eight universities from various regions of Indonesia who participated online.

The eight universities that participated online were:

  1. Syiah Kuala University (Aceh),
  2. Hasanuddin University (South Sulawesi),
  3. Cenderawasih University (Papua),
  4. Brawijaya University (East Java),
  5. Pattimura University (Maluku),
  6. Udayana University (Bali),
  7. Lambung Mangkurat University (South Kalimantan), and
  8. Nusa Cendana University (East Nusa Tenggara).

ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Si expressed his pride in the trust given to ULM as the host of this national event. In his speech, he emphasized that waste management is an urgent environmental issue that needs to be addressed.

“Waste can actually have economic value if managed properly. ULM is ready to be a strategic partner of the government in saving the environment while educating the public through waste management education,” said the Rector

The Minister of Environment, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, S.Hut., M.P who also attended the event, emphasized the importance of cross-sector cooperation to overcome the waste problem. According to him, the collaboration of the three ministries is a strategic step to encourage a culture of caring about waste in Indonesia, especially in the educational environment.

“Waste has become a global issue that has a wide impact, from health to the environment. Upstream efforts such as building a culture of awareness of caring about waste must start from education for students and university students,” he explained.

In addition, the Minister of Environment also visited various innovation booths from faculties at ULM which showcased environmental management efforts based on technology and research. The booths include:

– Wasaka Team Car ULM from the Faculty of Engineering with an energy-efficient car innovation,

– UPA Lingkungan Lahan Sah which displays wetland ecosystem management solutions,

– LPPM ULM with an environment-based community empowerment program,

– FKIP ULM with an environmental awareness education campaign, and

– M2Reg (Materials and Membranes Research Group) displaying IPR in the field of materials and membrane technology in peat water and other wetland environments.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Fauzan, M.Pd and Deputy Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education Prof. Atip Latipulhayat, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. also expressed their support for this movement. Both agreed that involving universities and schools in the waste-conscious lifestyle campaign is a real step to reduce the negative impact of waste on the environment.

As part of the event, a video conference was held with eight other universities that were present online to share experiences and strategies for waste management in their respective regions. This event is expected to strengthen public awareness of the importance of sustainable waste management, especially in educational environments. With this cross-sector collaboration, Indonesia is expected to be able to face global challenges related to waste issues more effectively and innovatively.
