Two Director Generals of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Give Public Lectures in Front of a Thousand ULM Students

Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) was honored in a public lecture with the theme “Social Forestry and Wetlands” which was attended by thousands of students from various faculties. This public lecture was held by the ULM Wetland Environment Academic Support Unit (UPA) at the ULM Banjarbaru Auditorium, on Friday (23/2). The resource persons for this public lecture were two Director Generals from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia, namely Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq S.Hut., M.P as Director General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management (PTKL) and Dr. Ir. Bambang Supriyanto, M.Sc as Director General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships (PSKL).

Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, S.Hut., M.P explained the potential of Indonesia’s wetlands which can be utilized to support environmental sustainability and people’s welfare. Meanwhile, Dr. Ir. Bambang Supriyanto, M.Sc explained the social forestry management policy which aims to empower communities around the forest. This public lecture was attended by more than a thousand participants, including 40 invited guests.

In the report of the chairman of the committee who is also the chairman of the ULM Wetland Environment UPA, Dr. Eng. Maya Amalia, S.T, M.Eng said that this public lecture was a form of implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ULM and KLHK which had just been signed by the ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Sc. and and Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Dr. Ir. Bambang Hendroyono, MM in Jakarta a few days earlier. Through this MoU, ULM is committed to becoming a superior university in wetland environmental management and contributing to achieving the main performance indicators of higher education as well as ULM’s vision as a World Class University.

ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Sc. expressed his gratitude to the two Director Generals of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for giving public lectures that were beneficial to the ULM academic community. He also hopes that ULM students can develop themselves as future leaders of the nation who care about the environment.

Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Sc. revealed that ULM has established itself as a university that focuses on wetland environmental management, so it needs support from the government, especially the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. He also stated that ULM plans to manage 621 hectares of mangrove land in Kotabaru as a world mangrove research center, center for community economic empowerment, and center for tourism development and wetland preservation.

Dr Hanif Faisol Nurofiq SHut MP informed that the documents submitted by ULM to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry were complete and were currently in the verification process at the Director General of Sustainable Forest Management (PHL) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. He hopes that the 621 hectare area which is a peat ecosystem can soon be managed by ULM as a wetland research center through mangrove forests in Kotabaru.
