Banjar, South Kalimantan – Lambung Mangkurat Medical Center (LMMC) ULM held a community service program offering free healthcare services to flood-affected residents in Sungai Sipai Village, Banjar Regency, on Monday (January 19, 2026).

This activity involved setting up a free health post on Jalan Veteran, Sungai Sipai Village, which operated from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time). The ULM medical team provided direct services to residents still facing the impacts of the flooding, even though the water level in the area had begun to recede from its previous waist-deep water level.

The LMMC ULM community service team consisted of two doctors, five paramedics, and one administrative staff member. The program also involved two nursing students and three undergraduate medical students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) ULM, and received support from the South Kalimantan Provincial Health Office in the form of medical supplies.

During the program, approximately 60 patients received healthcare services, with the majority being over 40 years old. Services provided included health consultations, blood pressure checks, medication, and simple blood tests for patients who indicated they needed further evaluation. The most common complaints were high blood pressure and abrasions on the feet caused by floodwater, known locally as “batis belancat.”

Doctor Mutiara Shifa, the Person in Charge (PIC) of the LMMC ULM social service program, stated that ULM’s presence in the community demonstrates the institution’s responsibility and concern for the emergency situation experienced by residents.

“We hope that ULM can always be responsive and participate directly as volunteers for flood victims, both in terms of health care and other support. Through this free healthcare service, we want to demonstrate that ULM is present, cares, and directly assists the community,” she said.

This social service activity is part of Lambung Mangkurat University’s consistent implementation of community service, particularly in emergency disaster situations. Through the involvement of lecturers, healthcare workers, and students, ULM not only provides medical services but also instills the values of social and humanitarian concern in the entire academic community.

With this concrete action, ULM hopes to ease the burden on communities affected by the floods while strengthening the role of higher education as an institution that is present, responsive, and has a direct impact on the Banua community. (Public Relations/AM)
