Jakarta – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting sustainable development and community service. This commitment was reflected in a meeting on the Mangrove Forest Utilization Business Permit (PBPH) held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, between the ULM Rector and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry, Dr. Ir. Mahfudz, M.P.

The meeting discussed efforts to rehabilitate mangrove areas in Tanah Bumbu Regency, particularly in the Sungai Dua area, which has experienced severe sea erosion and has had a direct impact on the social, economic, and environmental life of the surrounding community. ULM’s presence at this strategic forum emphasized the university’s role as a government partner in formulating science-based solutions.

In addition to the ULM Rector, the meeting was also attended by the ULM Vice Rector for Finance and General Affairs, Dr. Ir. Arief Rahmad Maulana Akbar, M.Si., IPU; the ULM Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhamad Rusmin Nuryadin, S.E., M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Ir. Syarifuddin Kadir, M.Si. Representatives of the Tanah Bumbu Regency Government, as the party directly responsible for managing the affected area, were also present.

The meeting discussed that the Tanah Bumbu Regional Government has allocated funds through the Regional Budget (APBD) to support the mangrove rehabilitation program. However, the area to be rehabilitated is a conservation area, requiring cross-sectoral coordination and official permits from the Ministry of Forestry to ensure the rehabilitation process is carried out according to regulations.

ULM is positioned as a strategic partner, providing academic support, scientific studies, and technical recommendations related to mangrove rehabilitation. ULM’s expertise and scientific resources are expected to strengthen program planning and implementation, ensuring that rehabilitation not only has an ecological impact but is also sustainable for coastal communities.

Through this meeting, Lambung Mangkurat University affirmed its commitment to continue its presence and active contribution in addressing strategic environmental issues in South Kalimantan. The synergy between ULM, the Ministry of Forestry, and the Regional Government is expected to accelerate efforts to restore mangrove ecosystems while strengthening the resilience of coastal areas against the threat of abrasion in the future.
