Noorhana, ULM’s Top Graduate, Leaves a Trace of Resilience as the First Graduate in Her Family

Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has once again shared an inspiring story from one of its students. Noorhana, a graduate of the Government Science Study Program in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at ULM, earned the title of Best Graduate at the University with a GPA of 3.91, becoming the first graduate in her family.

According to the December 31st edition of Bpost, Noorhana’s academic journey began in Binuang, Tapin Regency, where she was born and raised in a family with no tradition of higher education. The decision to continue her studies at university stemmed from her personal determination, despite the initial challenges of distance from her family and the demands of living independently for the first time.

Adapting to campus life in Banjarmasin was no easy feat. Noorhana had to manage her time, finances, and maintain mental resilience amidst her studies and organizational activities. When fatigue set in and doubts arose, she chose to make peace with herself and believe that everyone has their own struggles.

Behind her enthusiasm, there were lonely moments filled with tears. However, for her, crying wasn’t a sign of giving up, but rather a pause to get back on her feet. Family support was a major source of strength that kept her going. The prayers and sacrifices of her parents and siblings served as reminders that the struggle should not stop halfway.

In addition to focusing on academics, Noorhana was also active in organizations and used her semester breaks to work in various fields, from government agencies to part-time jobs. These experiences shaped her resilience, discipline, and time management skills, which became part of her personal skill set. She acknowledged that she couldn’t always be perfect in every role, but learned to appreciate the process and continually evaluate herself.

All of these efforts paid off when her name was announced as ULM’s Best Graduate. This achievement was not only a symbol of academic achievement, but also the result of consistency, hard work, and the courage to overcome limitations. The label “ambitious” often attached to her is actually interpreted as a drive to continue growing and giving her best.

Noorhana’s story reflects the role of Lambung Mangkurat University as a growth space for students from diverse backgrounds to develop their potential, resilience, and skills. Through a holistic educational process, ULM continues to produce outstanding graduates who excel not only academically but also have mature character and are ready to contribute to society.
