BANJARBARU – A team of lecturers from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) is actively participating in strengthening community disaster preparedness. Through the Compulsory Lecturer Service Program (PDWA), ULM lecturers conducted flood and fire management capacity building training for members of the Trisakti Disaster Preparedness Village (KSB) in Sungai Tiung Village, Cempaka District, Banjarbaru City.

The training, attended by 35 participants, took place on Thursday (October 30, 2025) and focused on emergency response training, increasing disaster awareness, and disaster management administration. The Head of the PDWA FISIP ULM Team, Safa Muzdalifah, S.IP., M.Hub.Int., explained that this program was designed to strengthen the community’s ability to face disaster risks, given that Cempaka District is a flood- and fire-prone area.

“Through this training, we want the community to have better skills and awareness in disaster management. This activity also represents ULM’s concrete contribution to supporting community resilience in vulnerable areas,” said Safa.

This community service program is part of a grant scheme funded by the Directorate of Research and Community Service of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek). In addition to providing training, the ULM PDWA team also distributed disaster relief equipment and appropriate technology to support community preparedness.

Members of the Trisakti KSB welcomed the activity, stating that the training provided practical knowledge while raising awareness of the importance of active community participation in disaster mitigation.

During the program, Safa Muzdalifah was accompanied by two other ULM FISIP lecturers, Dewi Purboningsih and Rosalina Kumalawati. The three collaborated directly with the community to ensure effective knowledge and skills transfer.

Through this activity, Lambung Mangkurat University reaffirms its commitment to implementing the Tridharma of Higher Education, particularly in the field of community service, by prioritizing education-based solutions and local empowerment to create a resilient and disaster-ready community.
