Banjarbaru – Lecturers from the Nursing Profession Study Program, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) ULM, in collaboration with Yandi Suharsono, AMK., SKM., MARS, a lecturer from the Hospital Administration Study Program at Borneo Lestari University (UNBL), held an educational activity entitled “First Aid Education for Children: Building Awareness and Preparedness in Elementary Schools.”

The activity, held on Thursday (10/16/2025) at SDN 2 Komet, Banjarbaru City, was attended by 396 students from grades 1 to 6. Through an interactive approach, the lecturers and students introduced the basic concepts of first aid (P3K) in a fun and easy-to-understand manner.

The head of the implementation team, Ifa Hafifah, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Ph.D., explained that introducing first aid skills from an early age is crucial, especially in the school environment where children engage in daily activities.

“We want to equip students with basic knowledge and simple skills so they can be more alert and less panicky when faced with minor incidents, such as nosebleeds, cuts, or choking,” she said.

In this activity, the students practiced directly handling several emergency situations, such as nosebleeds, bleeding wounds, fainting, choking, and falls. They were guided by lecturers and nursing students from the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing at ULM, Putri Agusia Ningsi and Rizkia Wati.

The principal of SDN 2 Komet, Dina Mariana, S.Pd.I., expressed her high appreciation for this activity.

“This is very beneficial for our children. They are becoming more concerned about their own safety and that of their friends. We hope activities like this can be held regularly,” she said.

In addition to providing direct benefits to students, this activity also serves as a contextual learning platform for ULM students. Through this activity, students learn how to convey health messages in a communicative, simple, and effective manner to children.

This activity reflects Lambung Mangkurat University’s commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community service, and strengthens the campus’s tangible contribution to developing a healthy, responsive, and caring young generation that cares about their own safety and the environment.
