ULM’s 67th Anniversary: ULM Academic Community Conducts Pilgrimage and flower scattering

Banjarbaru – As part of the 67th Anniversary celebrations for Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), university leaders conducted a pilgrimage to the grave of former ULM Rector, Brigadier General (Ret.) H. Hasan Basry, located on Jl. A. Yani KM.20, on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).

The event was led by the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Public Relations, and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Si., and attended by the Senate Chair and his deputies, deans, lecturers, and educational staff at ULM. The solemn pilgrimage honored his significant contributions to education in Kalimantan.

During the event, Dr. Yusuf Azis stated that Brigadier General (Ret.) H. Hasan Basry was not only a prominent figure in the struggle for Kalimantan, but also one of the founders of the University of Muhammadiyah (ULM), who had made extraordinary dedication to building the foundations of higher education in Banua.

“His services to education in Kalimantan are immense. This will certainly be a continuous charity for him. May Allah SWT widen his grave and grant him abundant rewards,” he said.

ULM emphasized that this pilgrimage was not merely a commemoration of the founders’ contributions, but also a reminder for future generations to continue preserving and developing the legacy of the educational struggle that had been established.

This grave pilgrimage was a key event on the agenda for ULM’s 67th Anniversary, which was celebrated not only with academic celebrations but also with historical reflection and tribute to figures who had contributed greatly to the university and the people of South Kalimantan.

In addition to visiting the grave of Brigadier General (Ret.) H. Hasan Basry, the university leadership and others also visited and scattering flowers at the graves of other previous rectors, including the late Prof. Kustan Basri, (late) Prof. Anwary Dilmy, (late) Prof. Alfian Noor, (late) Prof. Ir. H. Supardi, (late) Prof. H.M. Rasmadi, M.S., and (late) Prof. Ir. H. Yus’a Anward, SU.

It is hoped that this activity will preserve the collective memory of the great contributions of these founding figures, so that the younger generation will not forget the historical roots and struggles of their predecessors.
