Banjarmasin (August 24, 2025) – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) emphasized the importance of dance as a medium for cultural communication at the Luminaria Nusantara 2025 event held at Mahligai Pancasila, Banjarmasin. Through the involvement of its academic community, ULM provided academic perspectives and support for the preservation of regional arts and culture.

The Head of the ULM Communication Studies Study Program, Dr. Yuanita Setyastuti, S.IP., M.Si., emphasized that dance has value beyond mere aesthetic performance.

“Dance is not just aesthetics. It is a vehicle that conveys moral messages and noble values reflected in every movement. It is a medium for cultural communication that we must protect and preserve,” she said.

The highlight of Luminaria Nusantara 2025 was a Traditional Dance Competition showcasing the cultural diversity of various regions in Indonesia. The enthusiasm of the participants, especially the younger generation, is proof that the arts remain relevant and serve as a means of strengthening togetherness.

The South Kalimantan Provincial Education and Culture Office fully supported this activity. The Head of Arts, D. Sunjaya Adhiarso, expressed his appreciation for the event, which he believed was able to rekindle the spirit of cultural preservation.

“My admiration is not only for the beauty of the dances performed, but also for the enthusiasm of the participants. This is a concrete manifestation of reintroducing Kalimantan arts to the younger generation,” he said.

More than just a performance, Luminaria Nusantara provides a space for shared reflection that culture is a root that must be continuously preserved. Involving young people in arts activities is expected to ensure the sustainability of regional cultural heritage amidst the rapid flow of modernization.

With the collaboration between ULM and the South Kalimantan Education and Culture Office, this activity demonstrates that the education sector and the government can work hand in hand to rekindle the spirit of the arts and rekindle awareness among the younger generation about the importance of cultural preservation.
