ULM Improves Education Quality Through Classroom Management Training for Teachers in North Banjarmasin
BANJARMASIN – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) once again demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of education in the region through a community service program titled “Training on the Application of Classroom Management Strategies in Building Character of Students at Superior Elementary Schools in Wetlands, North Banjarmasin District” on Tuesday (July 22, 2025).
The activity, which took place in North Banjarmasin District, was initiated by a team of ULM lecturers led by Dr. Suhaimi and members Wenny Noorahim, M.Pd. and Ni’mah, S.Sos., M.Sosio. Two students, Annisa Nur Syifa and Sandrina Septia Rakasiwi, were also involved to strengthen academic synergy and provide students with hands-on experience in socio-educational activities.
A total of 25 teachers representing public elementary schools throughout North Banjarmasin District participated in the training. The activity began with a pre-test to assess participants’ prior knowledge, followed by an opening speech by Wenny Noorahim, M.Pd., before moving on to the main material.
In his presentation, Dr. Suhaimi emphasized that classroom management strategies are key to developing students’ character from an early age, especially in wetland areas that face unique challenges.
“Classroom management not only regulates student behavior, but also fosters important values such as discipline, responsibility, independence, and cooperation,” he said.
The core material was delivered by Dr. Suhaimi and Ni’mah, M.Sosio, using an interactive method. As an introduction, participants were invited to watch a relevant educational video, followed by a question-and-answer session, which offered opportunities to exchange experiences and solutions to challenges in the field.
The training also featured hands-on practice sessions through simulations with model teachers, allowing participants to apply the strategies they learned in real-life situations. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active participation in trying new methods and sharing their teaching experiences.
Through this activity, ULM hopes that teachers will be able to implement classroom management strategies effectively in their respective schools, create a conducive learning environment, and develop excellent and competitive student character.
“We want teachers to take home knowledge that can be immediately applied, so that the benefits are felt not only in the classroom, but also in developing a generation that is ready to compete,” concluded Dr. Suhaimi.
