ULM Students Encourage Community to Protect the Environment Through Kemuning River Cleanup
Banjarbaru – Students from Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) demonstrated their concern for environmental sustainability by holding a cleanup of the Kemuning River in Banjarbaru City on Saturday, June 28, 2025. This activity was initiated by the ULM Faculty of Forestry’s Student Association (MAPALA Sylva) as part of a movement to raise public awareness of the problem of waste pollution.
The activity, themed “The Role of Students in Stopping Waste Pollution,” took place from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Central Indonesian Time and received a positive response from the surrounding community. Residents participated in cleaning the river area alongside the students, creating a warm and inspiring atmosphere of mutual cooperation.
Muhammad Yusuf, Chairman of Mapala Sylva, expressed his hope that this activity would be the first step in sparking change.
“We hope this small movement can have a real impact and encourage us all to love and protect the environment more,” he said.
In addition to ULM students, this activity also involved members of the Wana Albisya Mapala Sylva, as well as nature lovers and forestry students from across South Kalimantan. After the activity, all participants gathered for a communal meal as a demonstration of togetherness and appreciation for their collective efforts in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
Through activities like this, Lambung Mangkurat University not only instills academic values but also fosters student character, fostering a concern for social and ecological issues in their surroundings. This cleanup effort is expected to spark broader and more sustainable environmental awareness within the community.
