ULM and the South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Strengthen Collaboration for Forest Conservation

Banjarbaru, July 14, 2025 – Students from the Faculty of Forestry at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) have established a strategic partnership with the South Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Agency (Dishut Kalsel) to strengthen forest conservation efforts in South Kalimantan.

A meeting between ULM and Dishut Kalsel students took place on Monday (July 14, 2025) at the Dishut Kalsel office in Banjarbaru. During the visit, the two parties discussed various forestry programs that could be implemented together, including strengthening forestry education for the younger generation.

The Secretary of the Dishut Kalsel, Kinta Ambarasti, stated that this meeting was an initiative by ULM students to build concrete collaborations with government agencies.

“We further discussed forest conservation programs, strengthening forestry education, and opportunities for future collaboration,” Kinta explained.

One of the soon-to-be collaborative programs is a nature conservation activity in Aru Bay, Laut Island, Kotabaru Regency, which is currently in the preparation stage.

Kinta expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm of the ULM students who took the initiative to directly participate in the environmental conservation agenda.

“The role of the younger generation, especially students, is crucial for maintaining forest sustainability. The South Kalimantan Forestry Agency is open to collaborations as long as they align with the vision of environmental conservation,” he said.

As a follow-up, the South Kalimantan Forestry Agency and the ULM Faculty of Forestry will hold an official hearing in the near future to discuss the technical implementation of the work program proposed by the students.

Through this synergy, ULM continues to demonstrate its commitment to making higher education an agent of change, not only in academics but also in making real contributions to the sustainability of natural resources in the region.
