ULM Holds Public Speaking Training to Prepare Students for the World of Work

Banjarmasin, June 23, 2025 – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) held a Public Speaking Training for final year students with the theme “Prepare and Become Better with Public Speaking Knowledge”, which took place at the Student Activity Center (SAC) Hall, General Building ULM Banjarmasin on Monday, June 23, 2025.

This activity was attended by 150 students from various faculties, who are currently in the stage of compiling their thesis or final assignment. Each faculty sent representative participants to receive training in public speaking skills as one of the important provisions before graduating and entering the world of work.

Aditya Agusta, a famous master of ceremonies (MC) and founder of CueCard.id Banjarmasin, was present as a resource person in this activity. Aditya is known to have experience as a communication practitioner and public speaking trainer who guides young people to professionals.

In his training session, Aditya shared various important techniques in delivering messages effectively, building self-confidence during presentations, and overcoming nervousness in front of an audience.

“The ability to speak in public is not only needed when presenting a thesis, but is also key during job interviews, professional meetings, and even when becoming a leader. Public speaking is the art of conveying thoughts with confidence and impact,” said Aditya.

Participants were also invited to do live simulations with various scenarios, from pitching ideas to answering questions spontaneously, which were packaged interactively and communicatively.

This activity is part of the soft skills development program initiated by the ULM Student and Alumni Development Division, especially in preparing final year students to not only excel academically, but also have non-technical skills that are relevant to the needs of the world of work.

ULM Student and Alumni Development Coordinator, Hj. Evi Nur Aina Hasni, S.E. said that public speaking training was chosen as one of the basic competencies that every prospective alumni must have. Public speaking is considered an important provision for prospective alumni because it can help increase self-confidence, develop communication skills, and open up various opportunities in professional and personal life.

This activity is a form of ULM’s commitment to preparing graduates who are not only intelligent, but also ready to compete professionally in various fields.

Through this training, it is hoped that prospective ULM alumni can be more confident in facing various challenges in the post-campus world. Participants also seemed enthusiastic in following the session from start to finish, and many stated that this training provided new insights and strong motivation to continue honing their communication skills.

With this activity, ULM confirms its commitment to assisting students until graduation, not only from an academic perspective, but also in personal and professional aspects. Similar activities are planned to continue to be held as part of the student transition program to the world of work and society.
