Building Spirit and Character: Karate Championship & UMKM Bazaar Successfully Held by IKA Fahutan ULM
Banjarbaru – The Sylva Karate Traditional Cup Championship and UMKM bazaar held by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Forestry, Lambung Mangkurat University (IKA Fahutan ULM) successfully attracted public attention. The event, which lasted for two days, May 10-11, 2025, in the yard of the Faculty of Forestry ULM, Banjarbaru, was attended by 166 karateka from 19 dojos in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
The Chairperson of IKA Fahutan, Muhammad Helmi, through the Secretary of IKA, Yuniarti, expressed his gratitude for the smooth implementation of the event which was not only a competition arena, but also a space for social and economic collaboration.
“Alhamdulillah, the Karate event and the UMKM bazaar went smoothly. We are proud to see children of various ages competing healthily, as well as seeing UMKM players very enthusiastic about showing off their superior products,” said Yuniarti, Monday (12/5/2025).
Helmi added that this activity aims to strengthen relations between alumni and build closeness with the community.
“This is part of IKA’s vision, which is to contribute to the environment and health. We chose karate because it fosters enthusiasm and positive character for the younger generation,” he said.
More than just a competition, this event is also designed as a place to develop young athletes, as well as revive interest in sports in the region. According to the Head of the Committee, Irwan Januardi, the majority of participants came from elementary school, followed by junior high and high school. He said the enthusiasm of the participants and spectators was quite high.
In addition to the karate championship and bazaar, IKA Fahutan also launched two new social programs: Filan Tropi and Humanitas. These two initiatives are intended for IKA members who are experiencing grief or need support for educational costs for their children.
“This program is a real form of our concern for fellow alumni. Hopefully it can continue and bring benefits,” added Yuniarti.
The success of this event did not make IKA Fahutan complacent. They have prepared the next agenda, namely the Fun Run which is planned to take place in September 2025 as part of the annual alumni activities.
“This spirit of collaboration and kinship must continue to be maintained. IKA Fahutan is not only a forum for friendship, but also a driver of positive activities for the community,” concluded Yuniarti.
