ULM and PLN Collaborate to Encourage Female Students to Become Strong Women in the Energy Sector
Banjarbaru, April 21, 2025 – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) through the Faculty of Engineering hosted the “Srikandi PLN Goes to Campus – Women Empowerment Talkshow”, an initiative of PT PLN (Persero) UIP3B Kalimantan in order to commemorate Kartini Day and encourage women’s empowerment in the electricity sector.
This event received an enthusiastic response from ULM female students. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering ULM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Iphan Fitrian Radam, expressed his appreciation for PLN’s steps in inspiring young women to dare to take on roles in the engineering world which has always been known as masculine.
“We really appreciate this activity. Female students can see firsthand that career opportunities in the engineering sector are very open, without gender limitations,” said Prof. Iphan. He also hopes that this kind of collaboration can continue to be developed as part of the transformation of education and women’s empowerment in Indonesia.
In her speech, Puji Astuti, Deputy Champion of Srikandi PLN UIP3B Kalimantan, emphasized that this activity was not just an introduction event, but an inspiring space to connect campus with the world of work. She introduced the Srikandi PLN community as a forum for empowering women in the PLN environment.
“We want to show that women are not only able to contribute, but can also lead in the energy sector,” she explained.
Puji added that currently women in PLN have been active in various important lines, from electricity system planning to digital transformation. Many of them have held strategic positions at the managerial level and even directors.
“This success is thanks to the support of an inclusive system and the company’s strong commitment to creating a safe and equal workspace,” she added.
The event continued with a talk show session themed Women Empowerment presenting Khusnul Khotimah, one of Srikandi PLN, who shared her experience about the strategic role of women in the world of work. The discussion was interactive with many questions from students, showing the high enthusiasm of the participants.
Separately, General Manager of PLN UIP3B Kalimantan, Riko Ramadhano Budiawan, emphasized that the presence of women in the engineering sector is a necessity, not an exception.
“We want ULM students to see that the world of work now provides equal opportunities, without gender discrimination,” said Riko.
Through this activity, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat together with PLN hopes to strengthen the role of young women in building an inclusive and highly competitive future energy sector.
