Scout ULM Holds Socialization and Tree Planting to Commemorate Earth Day
Socialization and tree planting are one of a series of activities from the work program of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Scout Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Ambalan Council. This activity was held to commemorate Earth Day which falls on April 22, 2025, but this planting and socialization activity was carried out two days earlier, namely on Sunday (20/4/2025) coinciding with a holiday. In this activity, Scout ULM collaborated with the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) and the ULM Rectorate.
 The collaboration carried out with KHDTK is to provide a place for planting and provide tree seedlings and financial assistance from the Rectorate as well as provide prizes in the form of 5 tumblers and 5 backpacks. This event is entitled “Achieving Blessings Through Care, Togetherness, and Knowledge”.
The location of the Planting activity was at the Angsana Tahura Sultan Adam Mandiangin Camping Ground and the Socialization was at the KHDTK barracks, Field 2. The participants of the activity were delegates from each Student Organization (Ormawa) at the University of Lambung Mangkurat level, who showed high enthusiasm from the beginning to the end of the event. The series of activities began with the opening ceremony at the KHDTK Barracks, Field 2, which was officially opened by Cholik Fadhlollah, S.Kom., as the Scoutmaster of the Penegak UKM Scout ULM.
After the opening remarks, all participants took part in a group photo session as a symbol of togetherness, before being directed to the planting area. Participants were divided into three groups, each carrying two Gaharu tree seedlings, and guided by the group coordinator, they walked together to the location, building an atmosphere of togetherness that was very much felt throughout the journey.
Upon arrival at the Angsana Camping Ground, the participants received training on good and correct planting techniques from Hidayati, as the representative of KHDTK ULM. After that, they moved to the planting area that had been prepared. With great enthusiasm, the participants planted the Gaharu seedlings that had been brought, realizing real action in environmental conservation efforts.
This activity not only strengthened the relationship between Ormawa, but also fostered collective awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving nature through simple actions that have a big impact.
After planting the trees, the participants returned to the KHDTK Barracks to rest together while enjoying the food that had been provided. Before the socialization began, the participants were invited to do ice breaking while waiting for the speaker to arrive at the KHDTK location. The ice breaking in this activity was guided by the organizing committee, with the enthusiasm of the participants maintained throughout the session.
With a game entitled “Ormawa Jadi Tanaman“, which was presented interactively by the committee, many participants expressed their opinions about plants that they felt were suitable to represent their organization, such as teak trees, ironwood trees, and various other types of plants.
After the resource person was present, the activity continued with a socialization on Planting and Forestry delivered by Mr. Ir. Ahmad Yamani, M.P., a lecturer at the ULM Faculty of Forestry and a representative of KHDTK ULM. He explained the importance of planting trees to preserve the environment and the various types and benefits of forests. After the presentation of the material, a question and answer session was opened, where students who asked questions received prizes in the form of four tumblers and five backpacks from the Chancellor, and one additional tumbler was given to the resource person.
The event was when continued with the handover of souvenirs to the KHDTK ULM by Cholik as the ULM Scout UKM Advisor, and closed with a group photo session at the KHDTK ULM location. This activity was not only to commemorate Earth Day, but also to provide knowledge to students on how to plant and socialize forestry. It is hoped that students can care more about the surrounding environment.
