Full Support from the Minister of Environment and South Kalimantan Police Chief for ULM Towards Best Accreditation

Banjarmasin – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) has received full support from the Minister of Environment, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and the South Kalimantan Police Chief (Kapolda Kalsel), Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan, in achieving the best accreditation and becoming a center of excellence in wetland environments.

Kapolda Kalsel, Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan, actively supports the advancement of higher education to realize Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) as an excellent and competitive institution in wetland environments. “We continue to support ULM in all aspects, including campus security, responsive curriculum development, and community service programs that have a broad impact on society,” said Yudha in Banjarmasin on Monday.

Kapolda specifically visited the ULM campus in Banjarmasin to strengthen ULM, which is currently being assessed by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) field assessment team, particularly in the environmental field. He mentioned that the BAN-PT assessment is a momentum to ensure ULM continues to develop as an educational institution and produce competent graduates.

According to him, this support not only strengthens academic quality but also serves as tangible evidence of strategic synergy between the police and the education sector in building excellent human resources. Yudha emphasized that collaboration between the police and universities is a progressive step to create an educational ecosystem that is integral, innovative, and relevant to societal needs.

This synergy, he added, strengthens crime prevention programs through educational approaches, social problem-based research, and community service involving students and lecturers. The support from the Minister and Kapolda was appreciated by ULM Rector Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri, who described this collaboration as an ideal example of a harmonious relationship between ULM, the Ministry, and the South Kalimantan Police.

The Rector stated that this support is not only moral but also in the form of concrete actions. “This provides additional energy for ULM to achieve the best accreditation and increase its contribution to the region,” he said. This step is expected to accelerate the realization of ULM as a center of excellence while strengthening the security foundation based on community participation.

In 2025, ULM and the South Kalimantan Police strengthened their cooperation through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) related to food security in the agricultural sector. This cooperation aims to optimize previously unproductive wetlands that often experience fires during the dry season. With support from the South Kalimantan Police, these lands have now been transformed into cornfields that provide economic benefits to the local community. Additionally, this cooperation also involves the Regional Intelligence Agency (BINDA) and PT Antang Gunung Meratus (AGM) in efforts to enhance food security in South Kalimantan. With this academic and collaborative approach, it is hoped that the utilization of natural resources in South Kalimantan can have a significant impact on both local and national communities.

ULM also established close cooperation with the Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry under Minister Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq to manage and rehabilitate mangrove areas in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan. This project covers an area of 611 hectares and aims to improve coastal ecosystems and provide economic and social benefits to the local community. Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq fully supports this initiative and emphasizes the importance of marine waste management as part of conservation efforts.

Additionally, Minister Hanif proposed the name “Indonesian Tropical Mangrove Laboratory” as the identity for the mangrove planting program implemented by ULM. This cooperation is expected to create a sustainable synergy model between the government, academics, and the community in wisely managing and utilizing natural resources.
