ULM Accepts 16 Newcastle University Students in The 2023 Summer Course Program
Banjarmasin – Indonesia has become a new attraction in the world of higher education, especially for foreign students who wish to experience studying at a number of universities in Indonesia. This is related to the program offered, namely the Summer Course program, to provide opportunities for universities in other parts of the world to provide each other with opportunities for students to gain learning experience at other universities abroad.
Summer Course is an educational program organized by universities, educational institutions or certain organizations during the summer. Generally, activities are held at the end of the school year, where students use their holiday time to deepen their knowledge and skills in certain fields, as well as to prepare them to enter a higher level of education. Apart from providing a fun learning experience, summer courses also provide opportunities for students to develop social skills, such as leadership, presentation, teamwork, communication, and so on.
Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) is one of the universities in Indonesia that has a Summer Course program. This program takes place considering that there is quite high interest from foreign students to study cross-border, especially students from The University of Newcastle, Australia. A total of 16 students from the University of Newcastle Australia, divided into several departments, are returning to take part in the Summer Course program this year. Their arrival at ULM was warmly welcomed by the ULM academic community at an event held at the General Building of the ULM Banjarmasin Campus on Tuesday (21/11/2023). This event was held with the theme “THE NEW COLOMBO PLAN, Mining Closure and Forest Rehabilitation ex-Mining Areas:Mitigation of Ecological Impact”.
In this event, ULM’s Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc, and Dr. Amelia Rizki, founder of Sahabat Bekantan Indonesia, Aan Nurhadi CSR Project & Monev Reporting Section Head PT. Adaro Indonesia, and Prof. Robert Timothy from Newcastle University Australia and students who are members of the 2023 Summer Course.
The arrival of Newcastle University Students is not without reason. This is based on the long-standing collaboration between ULM and Newcastle University which has enabled this program to run for many years. 2023 Summer Course Coordinator Dr. Arief Budiman said, this collaboration is very important and has been carried out for the past 5 years and has provided positive results for both universities and students. He also really appreciated the presence of these students to take part in the Summer Course program at ULM. “You will stay with us that have already been selected and it’s a long process to do some selection to give the best for you. ” concluded Dr. Arief.
It is hoped that this program will not only be a form of implementation of cooperation between the two universities, but also become a medium and provision for Newcastle University students or vice versa to be able to explore knowledge to open the gates to growth and mutual understanding in the world of education. According to ULM Vice Rector IV Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis This kind of thing is an important aspect for accreditation in the global education landscape in the current era.
