Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University together with the South Kalimantan Provincial Government and the South Kalimantan Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA) synergized to launch the ULM Center’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an effort to implement higher quality sustainable development. The launch event for the ULM SDGs Center was held on Wednesday (1/11/2023) at the Rattan Inn Hotel, Banjarmasin.

This inauguration was attended directly by the Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Si., Head of the South Kalimantan Bappeda Ariadi Noor, and Assistant I for Government and Social Welfare of the South Kalimantan Provincial Secretariat Fajar Nurul Desira as representatives of the Governor of South Kalimantan H. Sahbirin Noor. This event was also attended by approximately 200 guests consisting of various elements ranging from government, parliament, academics, officials, community organizations and the media.

ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Si., in his speech expressed his appreciation for the support from the South Kalimantan Provincial Government in building the ULM SDGs Center. With the existence of the SDGs Center, ULM as a PTN in South Kalimantan is certainly expected to make maximum contributions and have a strategic role in implementing sustainable and accountable development.

“This is a very important and strategic momentum in order to realize people’s dreams of creating quality development,” said the Rector in his speech.

In his speech he also said that in the future ULM will have a lot of homework, especially when ULM becomes a strategic partner of the Kalimantan Geopark. He also explained that the focus of a comprehensive SDGs study is not only a focus on physical development, but a focus on non-physical development is also part of the SDGs study.

Among the things that are the focus of the SDGs are sustainable development, having a positive impact on society, and improving the welfare of society as a whole. The Chancellor of ULM also invited other universities in South Kalimantan to get involved in the SDGs Center.

Assistant I for Government and Social Affairs of the South Kalimantan Provincial Secretariat, Nurul Fajar Desira, also said that through the SDGs Center, coordination, synergy and strengthening commitment between stakeholders and academics can be improved so that it can benefit everyone and the environment.

“The launching of the ULM SDGs Center is a means of accompanying the government, parliament, philanthropists, business actors, community organizations, media, academics and experts to contribute constructively in accelerating development achievements,” she said.

He also said that Uncle Birin hopes that the SDGs Center will become a research and study center to provide input to the regional government in the form of data, evidence or research which will later be used for sustainable development in South Kalimantan.

“Hopefully, these SDGs can help the government to accelerate development in Indonesia by 2030,” she said.
