Improving UPKH Staff Soft Skills, ULM PKH Bureau Holds Protocol and Public Speaking Workshop

Banjarmasin – The Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations Bureau (BPKH) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a Protocol Ethics Workshop. This event will be held for 2 (two) days from 10-11 October 2023 at the Meeting Room on the 3rd floor of the ULM Rectorate Building, Banjarmasin.

This activity was attended by the management of the Cooperation and Public Relations Implementation Unit (UPKH) at the faculty and university level within ULM with Drs. H. Amanul Yakin Anang as workshop speaker. For 2 (two) days, participants gain knowledge in the form of material as well as practice regarding protocol ethics and skills in public speaking.

Protocol, based on Law no. 9 of 2010 is a series of activities related to the rules for state events or official events which include Venue Arrangements, Ceremonial Arrangements and Respect Arrangements as a form of respect for someone according to their position and/or position in the state, government or society. The protocol function is considered vital for representing the image of the institution to the outside world. By having good protocol functions, an institution can gain a positive impression which further strengthens its image.

Apart from that, mastering etiquette is also very important when welcoming guests. Several etiquette protocols that need to be taken into account include the etiquette of shaking hands, speaking, sitting, standing, walking, etiquette at the dining table, and holding a banquet for guests. The important role of protocols in representing a positive image of ULM to guests visiting the university. Through this workshop, it is hoped that it can further strengthen capacity and build the image of ULM through good protocol functions.

On the second day, participants received material on public speaking skills, starting from being an announcer, Master of Ceremony (MC), moderator, and as a presenter. Public speaking skills are also important for educational staff (tendik), especially UPKH ULM staff. Mastering public speaking skills will help students increase their self-confidence and communication skills.

This event was opened directly by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations at ULM Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc. By holding this protocol and public speaking workshop, it is hoped that it can increase the soft skills of UPKH ULM staff in receiving guests and public speaking skills.
