MoU between ULM and the Regional Government of Tabalong Regency to Increase the Level of Education and Welfare of the Community
Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) and the Regional Government of Tabalong Regency signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or Memorandum of Understanding, which took place at the Tamasa Hall of the Regional Government Office of Banjarmasin Regency Thursday (11/4/2023).
The signing of the MoU was carried out directly by ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., with the Regent of Tabalong Regency, Dr. Drs. H. Anang Syakhfiani, M.Si who was also witnessed by the Secretary of the Tabalong Regency Council along with all the assistants and expert staff of the Tapin Regency Regent. Vice Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs Dr. Muhamad Rusmin Nuryadin, SE., M.Si and Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relations Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc was also present to accompany the Rector in the signing of this MoU.
In his remarks, the Rector expressed his deepest gratitude to the Tapin Regency Regional Government which had entrusted collaboration with ULM. This collaborative relationship also supports ULM in its achievement which has been designated as one of the Research and Community Service Institutes with 40 Universities throughout Indonesia as an Independent cluster ULM.
Tabalong is one of the regencies in the province of South Kalimantan. Tabalong Regency is well known for its mining products in the form of oil and coal. Besides that, it is also a producing area for palm oil, cocoa, and rubber. In his speech, the Regent of Tabalong Regency said that the average index of school children in Tabalong Regency was still quite low and it was hoped that this collaboration could be increased. In addition, the unemployment rate is also increasing. He hopes that through this collaboration, welfare in Tabalong Regency can increase even though the poverty rate in Tabalong tends to decrease every year and Tabalong Regency occupies the 3rd position for the highest poverty rate in the South Kalimantan region.
The scope of this Memorandum of Understanding includes 1. Education, 2. Research; 3. Improvement and Development of Human Resources Competency; 4. Training; 5. Community Service; 6. Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program (MBKM); 7. Business Development and 8. Other activities required and mutually agreed upon.
The Tabalong Regent greatly appreciates and supports this collaboration. “We definitely support whatever ULM does in order to increase its capacity to carry out the Tridharma of Higher Education and research and community service, God willing, we will support it.” he said.
