KPTN-KTI 2023 Coordination Meeting, Agreed to Hold Joint Independent Selection
The East Indonesia Consortium of State Universities (KPTN-KTI) held a Coordination Meeting to discuss preparations for the implementation of the 2023 PTN Independent Test, which took place at the Fugo Hotel Banjarmasin on Friday (24/2/2023). At this Coordination Meeting, the KPTN-KTI forum agreed that the independent selection could be carried out jointly.
Rector of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., as the host, was present with the ranks of the Deputy Rectors and Heads of the ULM Bureau. A total of 26 universities and polytechnics from a total of 42 colleges that are members of the KPTN-KTI attended this event.
PTN independent selection is a new student admission system that is carried out by PTN independently, starting from governance to selection rules. Reflecting on the previous implementation, Executive DiRector of KPTN-KTI Dr. Andi Ilham Makhmud conveyed the idea of jointly holding PTN independent selection.
This idea was then agreed upon by the forum at the KPTN-KTI Coordination Meeting where it was agreed that independent selection would be carried out with the same exam questions and exam schedule between PTN-PTN members.
As for matters related to the passing grade standard, it will later be mutually agreed upon where there are also PTNs that apply special standards for the graduation of their prospective students. The specific standards referred to include guarantees for the education of the best sons/daughters in each region
“It is undeniable that there is a gap between prospective students from the western and eastern regions,” said the Rector of ULM. Meanwhile, university graduates are expected to return to their respective regions to serve according to their competence and knowledge. This is a problem especially because there are still imbalances in facilities and infrastructure in various regions in Eastern Indonesia.
Therefore, guarantees are needed for the best sons and daughters of the region to get the opportunity to study at tertiary institutions in the context of equal distribution of education and human resources in Indonesia.
This background is also supported by the statement from the Chairman of the Presidium of the KPTN-KTI Dr. Adri Patton said that there were still many young people in border areas who could not continue their education to tertiary institutions, partly because they did not have clear citizenship status.
“We hope that later through this discussion and the programs implemented we can realize how universities throughout Indonesia can accept children from eastern Indonesia,” said Dr. Adrian Patton.
As is well known, the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB) in 2023 is divided into 3 mechanisms, namely National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP), National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT), and Independent Selection. In addition, the 2023 SNPMB is also managed by the Ministry of Education and Research and Technology’s Education Testing Management Center.
This decision is related to a case that occurred in 2022 which caused the integrity of State Universities to be tarnished. To prevent this from happening again, it is necessary to have a mutually agreed mechanism that regulates the implementation of PTN independent selection to maintain the process of admitting new students with dignity and integrity.
