ULM Students Promote Digital Literacy and Strengthen Education in Pematang Panjang Village through Community Service Program
Pematang Panjang – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) is once again strengthening its contribution to community empowerment through the implementation of a Community Service Program (KKN) conducted by Mathematics students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) in Pematang Panjang Village, Sungai Tabuk District. The program, which ran from July to October 2025, involved six students who directly assisted teachers, students, and village officials to improve digital literacy and the quality of basic education.
The main focus of this year’s KKN program was strengthening the technological capabilities of village communities. Through the Digital Smart Teacher Training program, held on August 9 and 12, 2025, 26 teachers from MIS Al-Ihsan and SDN Pematang Panjang received training in using Gamma AI and Quizizz AI as learning media. This training aimed to broaden teachers’ knowledge in utilizing technology to make classroom learning more interactive and relevant to digital developments.
Academically, ULM students also participated in the Math In Action program from August to September 2025. Twenty students participated in six sessions of mathematics reinforcement and training to prepare for the National Science Olympiad (OSN). This program was designed to help students develop logical thinking skills while boosting their confidence in facing competitions.
Efforts to increase interest in mathematics were also realized through the Math Star Competition held on October 12, 2025. Held at the Balai Benih (Seedling Unit) in Sungai Tabuk District, the competition attracted 21 participants, with six students achieving the highest scores and being crowned winners. This competition provided a platform for students to hone their reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Beyond focusing on education, ULM students also helped promote village potential through the Desa Dalam Lensa (Village in a Lens) program. In October 2025, they produced a 4-minute, 1-second documentary video showcasing local potential, public facilities, and educational resources in Pematang Panjang Village. The video was then published on the village’s official social media accounts to support the region’s digital branding.
Through this series of activities, ULM emphasized its commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly community service. This community service program (KKN) provided students with field experience and tangible benefits for the village community. The students hope similar programs can continue to improve digital literacy and academic achievement in Pematang Panjang over time.
