BANJARMASIN – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held an informational event regarding the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) proposal in the FKIP ULM Senate Meeting Room on Monday (November 3, 2025). This event was held in collaboration with the South Kalimantan Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum) as a manifestation of their commitment to supporting the protection of academic works and innovations.

The event was opened by the Deputy Dean I of FKIP ULM, Prof. Deasy Arisanti, M.Sc., who emphasized the importance of academic community awareness in protecting their scientific works and innovations.

“Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are a form of recognition for the work of lecturers and students. This is part of a healthy, productive, and integrity-based academic culture,” she said.

From the South Kalimantan Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Riswandi, Head of Intellectual Property Services, represented Alex Cosmas Pinem, Head of the South Kalimantan Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office. In his presentation, he comprehensively explained the procedures and stages for applying for various types of IPR, such as copyrights, patents, trademarks, and industrial designs. He stated that IPR protection not only ensures legal ownership of works but also opens up opportunities for broader economic benefits.

“Intellectual Property protection must be a shared awareness, especially in the academic community. By registering works, we maintain originality while strengthening the nation’s competitiveness through protected innovation,” he emphasized.

The event was attended by 21 heads of departments within the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the Lambung Mangkurat University  and took place in an interactive atmosphere. Participants actively discussed efficient IPR registration procedures and strategies for addressing administrative challenges that frequently arise in the field.

The South Kalimantan Ministry of Law and Human Rights team also encouraged the integration of the IPR registration system into faculty and university policies, so that scientific works such as theses, textbooks, and lecturers’ research results can receive legal protection.

Through this activity, Lambung Mangkurat University affirms its role as a proactive university in building an academic culture based on innovation and legal protection. The synergy between ULM and the South Kalimantan Ministry of Law and Human Rights is expected to strengthen the research ecosystem and raise awareness of the importance of intellectual property rights (IPR) in higher education, in line with efforts to strengthen regional and national competitiveness in science and technology.
