ULM and the South Kalimantan General Elections Commission (KPU) Explore Strategic Collaboration for Education, Internships, and Election Outreach

BANJARMASIN — Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) welcomed the Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) of South Kalimantan Province, along with commissioners and staff, to the ULM Rector’s Office on Tuesday (September 9, 2025). This visit marked the initial step in exploring a strategic collaboration that will be formalized in the form of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS).

The ULM Rector welcomed the South Kalimantan KPU’s initiative to strengthen institutional synergy, particularly in education, research, and internship programs. In addition to opening up academic collaboration, this collaboration also provides opportunities for KPU commissioners and staff to continue their formal education at ULM, including a Master of Law degree.

The scope of the collaboration includes internships, research collaboration, community service, seminars, focus group discussions (FGDs), workshops, and strengthening election outreach programs. ULM is also ready to support the implementation of general elections through the contributions of lecturers and students, both in technical and educational aspects.

The Chairman of the South Kalimantan Provincial General Elections Commission (KPU) emphasized that this collaboration is an important step in improving the quality of the KPU’s institutional structure.

“We want to open broader educational access for KPU staff. Several staff members are ready to continue their studies at ULM, including for a Masters of Law program,” she said.

Through this collaboration, ULM and the South Kalimantan KPU affirm their shared commitment to building an inclusive, knowledge-based democracy, while simultaneously strengthening human resource capacity in South Kalimantan.
