Martapura – Nursing Professional Students from Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) collaborated with the Hospital Health Promotion Team (PKRS) of RSUD Ratu Zalecha to hold a health counseling session entitled “Anemia Prevention in Pregnant Women.” The event took place on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) in front of the Maternal and Child Health (KIA) Polyclinic at RSUD Ratu Zalecha and was met with high enthusiasm from the participants.

During the counseling session, ULM students explained several strategies for preventing anemia, including regularly taking iron supplements, maintaining a balanced diet rich in iron and vitamins, and paying attention to folic acid intake. They also explained common symptoms of anemia, such as fatigue, dizziness, and pale skin, as well as the risks to the mother and fetus, including bleeding during delivery, postpartum depression, and low birth weight.

The activity was not just a one-way session but also included an interactive Q&A session. The pregnant women in attendance actively participated, some even sharing their personal experiences about the importance of maintaining nutritional intake during pregnancy.

According to the organizers, the main goal of this activity was to increase public understanding and awareness, especially for pregnant women, about the importance of preventing anemia to maintain maternal health and the quality of fetal development.

“Through this activity, we hope that pregnant women will better understand the importance of preventing anemia early on, so they can give birth to a healthy and quality generation,” said one member of the outreach team.

The presence of ULM students at this activity is clear evidence of the university’s role in supporting public health through education that directly benefits residents.
