ULM Pharmacy Students Win Silver Medal at the 2025 International Student Competition
Mataram – Students from Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) have once again brought honor to their alma mater on the international stage. A team of students from the Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), ULM, won a Silver Medal in the International Student Competition held by the University of Mataram on September 6–8, 2025.
The ULM team consisted of Cut Nadia Anne, Afifah Allisya, Salamah Sabina Balqis, and Amanda Syakira, under the guidance of lecturers Apt. Nabila Hadiah Akbar, M.Farm., and Apt. Muhammad Ikhwan Rizki, M.Farm. The competition was attended by 132 student teams from various countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Sierra Leone, Malaysia, and Gambia.
The competition carried the theme “Innovative Solutions from Young Generations for a Sustainable Future.” The ULM team participated in the Health subtheme essay competition with a work entitled: “MicroBio EGCG: Potential Abundant Tea Stem-derived Epigallocatechin Gallate to Enhance Breast Cancer Biomarker for Early Detection via Microneedle Liquid Biopsy.”
The ULM team’s essay proposed an innovative solution for early breast cancer detection through the use of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) derived from tea stem waste. This concept combines microneedle and liquid biopsy technology to increase biomarker sensitivity.
The guidance and support provided from the theme selection stage in May to the final presentation in September demonstrated the university’s commitment to supporting student research based on global health issues. The ULM team outperformed hundreds of participants to win the Silver Medal, an achievement that demonstrates the academic quality and innovation of ULM students at the international level.
This victory affirms ULM’s position as a university that consistently encourages its students to compete at the global level. In addition to academic contributions, this achievement also reflects ULM’s dedication to developing research that impacts public health and sustainable development.
