ULM Signs Cooperation Agreement with Language Agency, Demonstrating Joint Commitment to Monitoring Indonesian Language Use

Banjarbaru – As a follow-up to the Regulation of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education No. 2 of 2025 concerning the Monitoring of Indonesian Language Use in Public Spaces, the South Kalimantan Provincial Language Center held a Consolidation of Indonesian Language Monitoring in South Kalimantan Province on Friday (August 22, 2020) at the H. Maksid Hall, South Kalimantan Provincial Secretariat. This activity aims to build commitment between the central government, regional governments, and universities in the development, fostering, and protection of Indonesian and regional languages.

“To unify the vision, process, vision, and mission in implementing the Indonesian language monitoring program, consolidation is necessary so that the series of activities can be understood by all groups,” said Armiati Rasyid, Head of the South Kalimantan Provincial Language Center.

Monitoring the use of Indonesian plays a strategic role in maintaining national sovereignty, as language is not only a means of communication but also a symbol of national identity, unity, and strength. Supervision of Indonesian language use is crucial to ensure that the national language continues to be used properly, correctly, and in accordance with the rules.

The presence of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) in the consolidation of supervision of Indonesian language use in South Kalimantan Province demonstrates the university’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty through linguistics. As the largest and oldest university in Kalimantan, ULM plays a strategic role in motivating academics, students, and the public to use Indonesian correctly in public spaces.

ULM’s involvement in this consolidation demonstrates that monitoring Indonesian language use is not solely the responsibility of the government through the Language Agency, but also requires active support from higher education institutions. Through academic activities, research, community service, and scientific publications, ULM can serve as a role model and promote language literacy at the regional and national levels.

Therefore, this activity also marked a moment of collaboration between ULM and the Language Development and Fostering Agency of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, represented by Vice Rector IV, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc together with Hafidz Muksin as Head of the Language Development and Fostering Agency.
