Coastal Care Spirit: Action of Sociology Education Students for the Sustainability of Tangkisung Beach
Tanah Laut – The spirit of environmental care flared up at Tangkisung Beach today. Around 40 students from the Sociology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) class of 2023 held an inspiring social service action to care for the environment. This activity was held on Friday (13/6/2025) with the agenda of planting trees and cleaning up plastic waste along the Tangkisung Beach area, Tangkisung Village, Tangkisung District, Tanah Laut Regency.
This activity was also attended by Rahmat Nur, S.Pd., M.Pd., as a supervising lecturer. He said that this activity was more than just a routine activity, but also an integral part of the Social and Cultural Change and Environmental Sociology courses.
Through this activity, students directly apply the theories they have learned in college into real actions, showing how sociology can contribute to preserving nature.
Overall, this program and activity aims to increase public awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and concretely reduce the pile of plastic waste that threatens the coastal ecosystem. The students enthusiastically planted tree seedlings, which will later support the coastal ecology, and diligently collected various types of scattered plastic waste, in order to restore the natural beauty of the beach.
The Tangkisung Village Government also provided support and appreciation for the students’ initiatives. The collaboration between academics and the village government is a real example of how partnerships can have a significant positive impact on the environment and local communities.
It is hoped that the real actions of the 2023 FKIP ULM Sociology Education students will not only have a direct impact on the cleanliness and sustainability of Tangkisung Beach, but will also be able to transmit the spirit of caring for the environment to the wider community. Hopefully this activity will be a trigger for more similar initiatives in the future, in order to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
