ULM Students in the Architecture Study Program Win Winners in Two National Competitions

Six students from the architecture study program at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) managed to occupy fourth and fifth positions in the 2023 National Competition. The six students consisted of three ULM Architecture students namely, Jiya Aura Syifa, Muhammad Rafi’i and M Fajar Maulani as 5th place in the Post Disaster Rapid Shelter Design Competition, Adaptive in Adversity ARCHIRAY 2023 at Hassanudin University Makassar. Meanwhile, three other students namely, Francis Kelvin Simanto, Muhammada Hanan Alghifari and Amalia Setiarini, won 4th place in the 2023 Coworking Space Texture Design Competition at Yogyakarta University of Technology.

It is known, before winning 4th and 5th place, these six ULM students competed with hundreds of participants from the Architecture Study Program throughout Indonesia. “Alhamdulillah, we won 4th and 5th place,” said the Head of the ULM Architecture Study Program, Akbar Rahman, Tuesday (23/5/2023). “At UNHAS Makassar, the Adaptive In Adversity competition or disaster response building design won 5th place. Followed by ULM students who were still in their 4th semester, while other participants such as UGM and ITB sent their students who were in their 8th semester,” he said. “Meanwhile, for the Coworking Space competition or shared space from various companies at the Yogyakarta University of Technology, ULM students in semester 6 participated and won 4th place,” he added.

The Doctor of Urban Design, a graduate of SAGA University Japan, admits that he has not been able to emerge as the main winner, but is still grateful to be able to enter the final round by eliminating hundreds of participants, and competing with well-known universities in Indonesia. “This is a valuable opportunity and experience for our students, especially since they are still in semester 4, while their opponents are already in semester 8,” he said. “Hopefully this will be a motivation for our students to compete at the national level, even one day at the international level,” he added.
