Rector Inaugurates 22 University-Level Student Organizations, ULM Encourages Student Organizations to Become the Driving Force of Student Achievement
Banjarmasin — Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) inaugurated and sworn in the 2026 leadership of its student organizations, the Student Representative Council (DPM), the Student Executive Board (BEM), and the Student Activity Units (UKM) at the university level in an official ceremony held at the Lecture Theater, General Building, ULM Banjarmasin, on Monday (February 9, 2026).
The inauguration was conducted by ULM Rector Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si., and witnessed by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, the Head of the Academic and Student Affairs Bureau, and other student leaders and staff within the university.
A total of 22 university-level student organizations were inaugurated on the occasion, consisting of the Student Representative Council (DPM), Student Executive Board (BEM), and various student organizations (UKM) in the fields of reasoning, arts, sports, religion, entrepreneurship, and disaster management. These included the Borneo Nature and Arts Lovers Group (KOMPAS), Suryanata Menwa Unit 601 Nagarunting, KOPMA, Scouts, Boedjaja Art Village, martial arts student organizations (UKM), Lambung Mangkurat Debate Society, Persma Kinday, KSR-PMI, Swara Banua Choir, and the newly formed Quran Reading Student Organization (UKM Tilawatil Quran) formed in 2026.
The diversity of these organizations reflects ULM’s commitment to providing a comprehensive space for the development of students’ interests, talents, leadership, and soft skills beyond academic activities. In his remarks, the Rector congratulated the newly inaugurated students and encouraged all student organization administrators to carry out their mandate with full dedication.
“Congratulations on your work and good luck in bringing honor to Lambung Mangkurat University. Passion in carrying out your duties is invaluable capital. Building collaboration and communication, as well as providing limitless dedication to ULM, is the best path to realizing the university’s goal of becoming a top university,” said Prof. Ahmad.
The Rector also highlighted ULM’s achievement of achieving an Excellent ranking in the Student Student Association (Simkatmawa) in 2025, a milestone after more than six decades of the institution’s history. He emphasized that this achievement needs to be maintained and improved through the active participation of students and student organizations.
The Rector also appreciated the various achievements of ULM students, which are increasingly recognized nationally and internationally, including student involvement in international conferences in Japan and Harvard. He stated that student organizations and student units (UKM) play a strategic role as motivators, catalysts, and dynamists in encouraging new student achievements.
Furthermore, the Rector emphasized the importance of healthy communication between students and university leaders as part of inclusive and participatory student governance.
Through this inauguration, Lambung Mangkurat University affirms its commitment to fostering student leadership, strengthening the student ecosystem, and creating a competitive and globally competitive campus environment. Going forward, ULM hopes that student organizations will continue to be strategic partners with the university in improving the quality of education, student achievement, and the institution’s reputation at the national and international levels.
