South Kalimantan High School Paskibra Gains Insights into Higher Education from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences ULM

Banjarbaru – The field of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), University of Muhammadiyah Malang (ULM), Banjarbaru, served as the location for a collaborative joint training program for the Flag Raising Team (Paskibra) for High Schools (SMU) on Sunday (January 18, 2026). Over 500 participants, consisting of high school flag raisers from six cities/regencies: Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, Batola, Martapura, Rantau, and Pelaihari, participated, along with the provincial board of retired Indonesian flag raisers from South Kalimantan. On this occasion, ULM provided information on the Undergraduate (S1) program, specifically the study programs within the FPIK program.

The opening ceremony was attended and officially opened by ULM’s Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs, Dr. Ir. Arief Rahmad Maulana Akbar, M.Si., IPU, accompanied by the Dean of FPIK, Dr. Ir. Untung Bijaksana, M.P., the outreach program was aimed at students participating in the Joint High School Flag Raising Training (Pskibraka) from six regencies/cities in South Kalimantan.

The Vice Rector of ULM stated that this outreach activity is part of the university’s commitment to providing prospective students and the general public with a comprehensive understanding of quality higher education options relevant to future needs.

“ULM is committed to being more accessible to the younger generation, providing clear and transparent information about study programs and the opportunities for self-development they can obtain through higher education,” said the Vice Rector.

Through this activity, ULM introduced the profile of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and its study programs, while also broadening participants’ horizons regarding academic opportunities, competency development, and the prospects for higher education at ULM. This outreach program is part of ULM’s efforts to bring the world of higher education closer to prospective students from an early age.

Dr. Arief also emphasized that ULM views Paskibraka participants as a potential generation who not only excel academically but also possess strong leadership and discipline.

“We hope that the Paskibraka participants will continue their higher education with a spirit of achievement and choose universities that can support the development of their character, competence, and competitiveness,” he added.

Through this outreach, ULM hopes to foster participants’ interest in pursuing higher education, while also promoting the ULM Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) as one of the leading faculties that plays a strategic role in the development of marine and fisheries resources in South Kalimantan and Indonesia. (Public Relations/AM)
