ULM’s Doctoral Law Program Undergoes Accreditation Assessment

BANJARMASIN – The Doctoral Law Program at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) underwent a crucial stage in higher education quality assurance through an Accreditation Field Assessment (AL) conducted by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). This activity took place at the ULM Faculty of Law on Tuesday (11/11) as part of the verification and validation process for the Self-Evaluation Report (LED) prepared by the study program.

ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si., was present in person, accompanying the Dean of the Faculty of Law and staff, demonstrating the university’s full commitment to ensuring the academic quality of the doctoral program meets the highest national standards.

The BAN-PT assessor team consisted of two prominent legal experts: Prof. Dr. Maret Priyatna, S.H., M.H. and Dr. Yeni Salma Barlinti, S.H., M.H., will conduct document reviews, inspect facilities and infrastructure, and conduct interviews with program administrators, lecturers, students, and alumni.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, ULM, expressed her appreciation for the presence of the assessor team and emphasized the readiness of the entire academic community to undergo the assessment process.

“This doctoral program is part of the constitutional mandate to educate the nation and develop superior human resources. With all humility, we express our gratitude for the time and attention given by the assessor team,” his said.

The ULM Doctoral Law Program is the only doctoral law program on the island of Kalimantan, opened in 2021. Its strategic vision is aimed at becoming a leading global study program in wetland development and environmental management by 2031—a vision that aligns with the policy direction of Lambung Mangkurat University.

The ULM Rector added that this accreditation not only impacts the Doctoral Law Program but also ULM’s institutional reputation as a leading university at the regional and national levels.

“We don’t want this doctoral program to become an ivory tower, merely theoretically superior, but detached from the social and ecological context of Kalimantan. We are at the epicenter of wetland issues—from peatland governance and mining law to restorative justice for indigenous communities,” he emphasized.

Therefore, the ULM Doctoral Program in Law is aimed at producing jurists and doctors of law who not only master positive legal theory but also possess sensitivity to environmental issues, natural resources, and customary law relevant to wetland ecosystems.

The entire academic community of the ULM Faculty of Law hopes that this field assessment process will run smoothly and result in the best possible accreditation, ideally “Excellent,” as recognition of the quality of higher legal education in Kalimantan.
