LOKSADO — The Sociology Education Department of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) once again reached out to the community through a community service activity that directly impacted the lives of children. Taking place at Loklahung Elementary School, Loksado District, Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency, a team of lecturers and students held an educational film screening for approximately 60 students from grades 1 to 6 on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).

The activity began with a friendly gathering between the school and the community service team. The Head of the Department, Rochgiyanti, along with the Head of the Community Service Team, Lumban Arofah, introduced the lecturers and students to the Loklahung Elementary School teachers, including Mariam, Siti Maimunah, Selvia Indah Lestari, and Syahrin. The warm and enthusiastic atmosphere paved the way for closer interactions throughout the activity.

The main session was led by Alfisyah, who engaged the students in a lighthearted discussion about national heroes. The children were encouraged to name characters, share stories, and enthusiastically express their opinions. Afterward, a 12-minute film was screened—the theme of the impact of digital games on mobile phones, presented in an animated format that captivated children’s attention.

Following the screening, a team of lecturers explained the film’s content in a simple and communicative manner. The main message conveyed was the importance of maintaining a balance between digital entertainment and creative activities. Traditional games such as hopscotch, hide-and-seek, and balogo are considered to stimulate children’s imagination and social interaction.

The students’ enthusiasm was evident. They actively asked questions, laughed together, and demonstrated a keen curiosity. At the end of the activity, the camaraderie was further enhanced as the students shook hands with the lecturers and teachers, and then posed for a warm group photo.

Through this activity, the ULM Department of Sociology Education affirmed its commitment to providing relevant, enjoyable, and impactful education for children in rural areas. Visual literacy and simple dialogue serve as bridges to building character and creativity from an early age.
