Karang Intan (September 6, 2025) – The Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) of the Faculty of Medicine, ULM (FKIK) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held its first Health Class in Karang Intan Village. The theme of the activity was “Nutrition and Love: A Powerful Combination to Prevent Stunting” and involved women from the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), cadres, and the local community.

The event was held with the support of the Team Work Program of Commission 4 of the Faculty of Medicine, ULM (FKIK) and featured the keynote speaker, Ners Agianto, S.Kep., M.N.S., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Nursing Study Program at FKIK ULM and a mentor lecturer for the PPK Ormawa. She emphasized that stunting is not just a physical problem but also impacts the quality of future human resources.

“Stunting is not just a matter of height, but also affects brain development, intelligence, endurance, and productivity in adulthood,” stressed Ners Agianto.

In his explanation, Ners Agianto defined stunting as a condition of growth failure due to chronic malnutrition, repeated infections, and suboptimal parenting. He also outlined other factors such as poor environmental sanitation, inappropriate breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and long-term malnutrition.

Participants were then encouraged to understand the long-term impacts of stunting, ranging from stunted growth, decreased concentration in learning, increased risk of degenerative diseases, and low job competitiveness. As solutions, she emphasized the importance of balanced nutrition, a clean lifestyle, and loving parenting.

“The combination of proper nutrition and love in parenting is the foundation for optimal child growth and development,” he added.

The class became more interactive with a question-and-answer session, where participants enthusiastically asked questions. The implementing team from the Team Work DPM FKIK ULM also interspersed the activities with icebreakers before the post-test session, keeping the atmosphere lively and enthusiastic.

In closing, the committee distributed door prizes to selected participants and held a group documentation session. Through this health class, ULM hopes to raise public awareness that stunting prevention can begin with simple steps within the family, namely consistent nutritional support and love.
