Second Year of PM-UPUD ULM: Campus and MSME Synergy for Regional Superior Products

BANJARBARU – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) is continuing its community service program through the Community Empowerment of Regional Superior Product Enterprises (PM-UPUD) scheme in its second year, following the success of its first implementation in 2024. This program is chaired by Prof. Dr. Ir. Hesty Heryani, MSi, IPU, ASEAN Eng., along with a team of other ULM lecturers: Dr. Utomo, SPd, MPd, Andry Fajar Zulkarnain, SST, MT, and Noor Ridha Yanti, STP, M. Ling.

Titled “Technology Transfer for Developing Mangrove-Specific Superior Products Applying Sustainable Green Economy Principles,” this 2025 activity continues to receive funding support from the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM) of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.

“This program facilitates MSMEs using the Foster Sibling and Foster Child model as an effort to strengthen the Sasirangan business ecosystem based on sustainable green technology,” explained Prof. Hesty.

Two partner MSMEs, Atun Cempaka Sasirangan and Rabita Sasirangan Specialist in Banjarbaru, had previously received mentoring in the first year of the program. Through this service, they were provided with 2,000 watts of solar power and production machinery to support the production of industrial-standard handbags.

Now, these two MSMEs act as Foster Siblings, mentoring several other groups. The new partners include the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) groups in Banjarbaru City and Banjar Regency as Foster Siblings, and Fashion Design Vocational School students and university students who love arts and culture and the Sasirangan creative industry as Foster Children.

Prof. Hesty emphasized that this model not only supports business sustainability but also expands economic and social benefits. “The Foster Sibling and Foster Child program further empowers communities, increases income, and fosters creative ideas for Sasirangan industrial products,” she said.

With this collaborative model, ULM affirms its commitment to strengthening a green economy based on local wisdom and supporting Sasirangan MSMEs to become more competitive in the creative industry era.
