ULM Assists Purun Weavers in Implementing a Digital Accounting System at HSU
AMUNTAI – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) and Banjarmasin State Polytechnic (Poliban) conducted a Community Service (PKM) program at the Berkat Ilahi Joint Business Group (KUBE) in Pulan Tani Village, Haur Gading District, North Hulu Sungai Regency (HSU), South Kalimantan.
The activity, which took place on August 11, 12, 25, and 26, 2025, focused on strengthening business management through the implementation of a web-based accounting information system and financial management training for purun weavers.
The Head of the Community Service Team, Muhammad Bahit, a lecturer in Information Technology at ULM, revealed that the purun weavers still face challenges in financial record-keeping and calculating the cost of goods produced.
“KUBE Berkat Ilahi has a potential product, but without proper business management, they struggle to calculate costs, prepare financial reports, and plan budgets professionally,” he explained on Monday (August 25, 2025).
As a solution, the community service team designed a digital accounting system that allows for more organized and structured transaction recording, cost of goods manufactured calculations, and financial reporting. This step is expected to improve business management capacity and support the sustainability of purun woven production.
Poliban lecturer, Dr. Monika Handayani, added that the digital accounting system can strengthen transparency and accountability in village businesses. “With neat bookkeeping, groups can make more informed business decisions, while also increasing the trust of partners and consumers,” she said.
The head of KUBE Berkat Ilahi, Akhmad Baihaki, welcomed the assistance from the university. “Until now, we’ve only kept simple records. With the accounting information system and training, we can be more confident in developing our business,” he said.
The community service team consists of H. Muhammad Bahit (Lecturer in Information Technology at ULM), Dr. Ir. Syahrial Shaddiq (Lecturer in Development Economics at ULM), and Dr. Monika Handayani (Lecturer in Accounting Information Systems at Poliban). This program is also supported by a grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) for the 2025 Fiscal Year.
KUBE Berkat Ilahi, whose members are mostly young villagers, produces various crafts from purun (a type of wood) from peatlands, such as mats, bags, and household items. With support from ULM and Poliban, this group is expected to not only be resilient in production but also have sound and sustainable financial management, demonstrating a superior regional product.
